Rose Leclercq was the fourth daughter of ballet master Charles Leclercq (1797-1861). She debuted as a danseuse at the Princess's Theatre in London in 1854. In 1860 she appeared in London in "The Corsican Brothers" by Dion Boucicault and in 1861 she was Desdemona next to Albert Fechter in "Othello". She married the horse dealer Charles Perry Fuller in 1864. Their son was the actor Fuller Mellish (1865-1935). She appeared in several more plays by Dion Boucicault, among them "After Dark" (1868). In 1895 she was the first to play Lady Bracknell in Oscar Wilde's" The Importance of Being Ernest". Rose was one of the mourners during the burial of the novelist Wilkie Collins. Her sister Carlotta Leclercq was also a well known actress. Arthur Balfour and Joseph Chamberlain were in the audience. The play ran for 113 performances and closed on 16 August. Original performers included Herbert Beerbohm Tree, E.
