Corneille Max was the eldest son of the painter Gabriel von Max. Gabriel von Hackl and Anton Azbe were his teachers. He worked as a painter of portrait and landscapes and also as an etcher. In 1905 he married Wilhelmine Gedon (1877-1943). She was the daughter of the architect Lorenz Gedon (1844-1883) and she was known as Stora or Stochl. Max depicted her in his color etching "Die Biene". During the First World War he suffered a poison gas injury. He never recovered and died in 1924 in Munich.
