The famous German soprano Eva von der Osten was the daughter of the actors Emil von der Osten (1847-1905) and Rosa von der Osten-Hildebrandt (1850-1911). She debuted in 1902 at the Court Opera in Dresden as Page Urbain in Meyerbeer's "Hugenotten". Until the end of her career in 1933 she was engaged at the Hofoper. In 1911 she married the singer Friedrich Plaschke (1875-1952). From 1917 she lived in Dresden-Blasewitz and from 1925 in Tharandt near Dresden. She attracted attention with her role of Tatjana in Tschaikowsky's "Eugen Onegin" in 1908. On January 26th, 1911 she created the role of Octavian at the premiere of Richard Strauss' "Der Rosenkavalier". She performed the same part at the Dutch premiere in The Hague (1911) and at Covent Garden in London (1913). In 1918 she performed in the premiere of Schreker's "Der ferne Klang" and in 1920 in the premiere of Paul Graener's "Schirin und Gertraude". She frequently made guest appearances at the Komischen Oper in Berlin and also gave guest performances in Brussels, Paris, London and Boston. In 1923-1924 she toured in the USA with Leo Blech's German Opera Company as Isolde in "Tristan und Isolde" and as Sieglinde in "Die Walküre". In 1930 she left the stage as Brünnhilde in "Die Walküre" with her husband as Wotan. She continued working as a director at the Staatsoper in Dresden. In 1933 she directed the premiere of "Arabella" by Richard Strauss. Shortly afterwards she suffered a stroke that damaged her health permanently. She was buried at the Johannisfriedhof in Dresden i nthe grave of her mother. Her sister Vally von der Osten, a well known soprano as well, was buried in the same grave before her. Ernst von Schuch was the conductor. The singers included Eva von der Osten, Karl Scheidemantel, Karl Perron, Minnie Nast and Elisa Stünzner.
